Pistol Whip gets a major free update for Halloween
With “Elixir of Madness” Pistol Whip gets a major Halloween update, bringing you three new scenes, weapons, and more.
Since its release in November 2019, Pistol Whip has been one of the highest-rated and longest-running VR games of all time, and is now playable on all major VR headsets.
Developer Cloudhead Games has been providing fans of the VR rhythm shooter with new content for years. Now, a new free update is coming in October, all about the spookiest time of the year.
Halloween update with three new locations
The “Elixir of Madness” update adds three new scenes to Pistol Whip, inspired by vintage horror movies and “seedy absinthe speakeasies”. Each scene features a unique Electroswing soundtrack and takes players on a journey through haunted houses, nightmarish laboratories and more.
Following the Pistol Whip roadmap announcement for our 10th anniversary last month, we're excited to officially reveal the launch date for Elixir of Madness!

With “Halloween Party” the first scene for Meta Quest 2, Playstation VR 2, Pico 4 and SteamVR will be released on October 5. Electroswing producer Odd Chap is responsible for the soundtrack. Two more scenes, “Kicking Up Dirt” and “My Mind,” will be released in the two weeks after.
New weapons and modifiers
In addition to new enemies, Elixir of Madness also brings additional weapons to the game, such as a sawed-off shotgun, a Tommy Gun and a skull bludgeon. Three new modifiers are also added: “Laser Sight” increases precision and “Bullet Graze” rewards tight dodges.
Things get a bit more cryptic with the “Glitch” modifier. According to the developers, it's supposed to be an additional challenge where you'll have to think twice before shooting.
Pistol Whip was part of Meta's Quest+ game subscription in July and thus free for subscribers. Most recently, Cloudhead Games delivered five free monthly scenes as part of the "Overdrive Season", sending you to the Middle Ages full of knights and dragons, among other things.
