A golden Apple Vision Pro costs $39,000
Thought the Apple Vision Pro was pricey at $3,500? Think again - you can get it for eleven times more.
Apple entered the VR/AR market a few weeks ago and unveiled the impressive Apple Vision Pro. The VR/AR headset is expected to be released in early 2024 and will cost a whopping $3,500.
A high price was expected even before the official announcement. On the one hand, this is a new product category for Apple, and on the other hand, there is a lot of high-tech in the device. For example, two high-performance chips, the M1 and a specially developed R1 chip for an almost latency-free view into physical reality, also called AR Passthrough.
Full luxury ahead: Apple Vision Pro goes gold
There is relatively little luxury in the standard price, although the Vision Pro does have a noble feel with its glass and metal. But this comes at another price: The weight of the VR/AR headset is said to be quite high, at over 500 grams.
Luxury goods manufacturer Caviar thinks it should be even heavier, and has announced a golden version of the Apple Vision Pro. Caviar has previously offered golden AirPods or an iPhone covered in gold and diamonds for $120,000.
By comparison, the gold-plated Apple Vision Pro is a bargain: Just $39,000. For that, you get 1.5 kilograms of 18-karat gold on your face computer. The head strap is made of Conolly leather.
If you want one, you'll have to be quick: The golden Vision Pro will only be available in a limited edition of 24. The delivery date is the end of 2024.
Vision Pro Gold Edition: More of a showroom piece
Part of the extra gold load is a flip-up visor that is supposed to provide "more privacy." If you don't want your eyes to be digitally exposed by the EyeSight technology, you can fold down the visor like a motorcycle helmet and immediately feel much more private.
Caviar's gold-plated Apple Vision Pro weighs a total of two kilograms. That's 800 grams more than the Pimax Crystal. So you'll need a strong neck - or maybe a fancy VR headset mount, like the one on Meta's Starburst prototype.
