Pistol Whip "Holiday Update" brings many improvements

Pistol Whip

The rhythm shooter Pistol Whip gets a free update that improves the game entry and interface.

This successful beat-banger, which features bold tracks and flashy digital aesthetics, grew considerably since its launch three years ago. The team added a variety of new scenes, modifiers, and two cinematic story campaigns to the VR game.

The latest update does not bring any new content, but general improvements. Newcomers can look forward to revised and more detailed tutorials that explain the game in greater detail. The biggest changes, however, concern the completely reworked interface, which now allows for better readability and orientation during fierce battles.

Holiday Update: It brings these UI improvements

In a Youtube video, the studio explains what exactly has been improved:

  • The hit numbers are now more visible, thanks to white lettering and black-backed plaques. On these, you can also see icons that signal whether you hit exactly and precisely to the beat.
  • The HUD no longer follows the player's gaze and floats motionless in the field of view. On the left side, you can see a revised and easier-to-read armor indicator, in the middle the level progress, and on the right the also overhauled point multiplier.
  • It is now easier to understand how multipliers affect the score. Moreover, you can see the multiplier increasing in real-time.

More pistol-whip content coming soon

The Holiday Update is out today for Meta Quest 1 & 2 as well as the PC VR version. Owners of a Pico 4 (review) will be able to play Pistol Whip starting December 15, 2022. The rhythm shooter is also a launch title for Playstation VR 2, which will be released on February 22, 2023.

We should find out what's next for Pistol Whip in terms of content at the Upload VR Winter Showcase, which takes place on December 7. Developer Cloudhead Games teases new content for Pistol Whip, which should not be long in coming.
