Exclusive titles
Gran Turismo 7
With Playstation VR 2, the racing game becomes more immersive than ever. "Gran Turismo 7 looks so good: the lighting, the tracks, the cars. The controls are also excellent, especially with the steering wheel. I must say: It's the most fun I've ever had on the tarmac and I wouldn't play Gran Turismo any other way. It's just great," writes Ben in his review of Gran Turismo 7.
Horizon Call of the Mountain
Developed for Playstation VR 2 by Guerilla Games and Firesprite, Horizon Call of the Mountain is the system's biggest exclusive title and is bundled with the VR headset.
"I celebrate Horizon like no other VR game in recent years. It's a stunning example of what VR can do and what the transformation of a popular and familiar game world into VR can look like," writes Ben in his review of Horizon Call of the Mountain.
Resident Evil 4 VR mode
The remake of the horror classic was released in early 2023 on multiple platforms and was one of the most successful games of the year, selling over 5 million copies. With the VR mode for Playstation VR 2, you can experience the main story from start to finish through the eyes of Leon S. Kennedy and be right in the middle of the action.
Resident Evil Village VR mode
Our reviewer Jan praised the breathtaking scenery and found the VR port remarkably well adapted to the capabilities of the PSVR 2: "Resident Evil Village surpasses almost every other VR adventure in terms of scope, depth of gameplay, and richness of detail. The search for the missing daughter leads into a crazy nightmare world in a motivating mix of action, puzzles, hiding and exploration," writes Jan in his review of Resident Evil Village VR.
Synapse
A unique visual style and gaze-controlled telekinetic powers make this PSVR 2 exclusive stand out from the crowd of VR games.
"At first, Synapse was as intriguing as the telekinetic powers of my enemies. The creative targeting of objects with my eyes became second nature to me so quickly that I don't want to be without it! I was also impressed by the very free combat system with many skill tree upgrades and the improved cover mechanics from Fracked," writes Jan in his Synapse review.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
This scary rollercoaster shooter disappointed PSVR 2 players when it was released shortly after the VR headset's launch. Supermassive Games took the criticism to heart and delivered a series of updates that really beefed up the graphics and added a horde mode to the game. It is now a recommended title for the platform.
Available for other platforms
The 7th Guest
The mystery adventure game is a remake of the classic CD-ROM game from the 90s and was developed from the ground up for virtual reality. The 7th Guest VR delights with clever puzzles, volumetric live-action actors and a dense atmosphere.
Among Us VR
Coming a year after the PC VR and Quest versions, the PSVR 2 version of the indie hit supports cross-play with all other VR platforms, so you can play with your friends no matter what headset they own.
Arizona Sunshine 2
The sequel to the VR classic features a co-op mode and this time a dog to help you fight the onslaught of zombies.
"Vertigo Games understands how to tell stories in VR. What starts out as a fun zombie shooter with biting humor becomes an intense and emotional experience that in parts can be compared to The Last of Us," writes Josef in his review of Arizona Sunshine 2.
Ancient Dungeon
Ancient Dungeon is a dungeon crawler with roguelike elements, physics-based combat, procedurally generated maps, and a chic retro aesthetic. Traps and a variety of typical dungeon monsters such as zombies, jumping slime piles and bats await you in the dungeons. There are plenty of secrets to discover and loot to make, which you can use to upgrade your weapons.
Beat Saber
Not much needs to be said about the biggest VR hit of all time. Grab your lightsabers and get started!
Before Your Eyes
The eye-tracking adventure game offers an extremely interesting concept: it is a picturesquely realized journey into the afterlife, controlled from a first-person perspective with your own blinking. Read Jan's review for more impressions.
Breachers
Triangle Factory's competitive VR shooter Breachers features tactical 5v5 multiplayer battles reminiscent of genre stalwarts like Rainbow Six Siege and CS:GO.
In Breachers, you storm a lab complex as a five-man special forces unit. Meanwhile, the enemy team takes care of the defense with mines, motion detectors, and other gadgets.
Cosmodread
Cosmodread is a roguelike game developed by VR veteran Sergio Hidalgo, who created one of the first VR horror games with Dreadhalls.
In Cosmodread, you are stranded on an abandoned spaceship whose crew has vanished without a trace. Your mission is to explore the spaceship and find a way back to Earth. Through the messages left behind by the crew, you will piece together what happened to them.
Demeo
Fancy a night of tabletop gaming with friends? Demeo is a fantasy role-playing game that lets up to four players explore dark dungeons together. Choose from one of six hero classes: Guardian, Mage, Hunter, Assassin, Bard and Warlock. Each class has special strengths and abilities that must be used effectively in the fight against dangerous goblins, wizards and trolls.
The playing field is a virtual dungeon that lies before you like a 3D game board, and can be rotated, zoomed in and out at will using clever hand controls to experience battles up close.
Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game
Ben was blown away by this strategy game built from the ground up for virtual reality. "This Stellaris spin-off will captivate you: the mix of challenge, reward, luck, and skill in this roguelite is currently unparalleled in VR. The constantly changing path through the seven stages with many different, randomized maps remains exciting even after the umpteenth time," writes Ben in his Ghost Signal review.
I Expect You To Die 3: Cog in the Machine
Our reviewer Josef loved the third installment of the iconic room escape game series. "I Expect You To Die 3 is a VR game as it should be. Interactive, creative, accessible. The intuitive controls and high level of comfort make it a great experience even for VR newbies. The spy story doesn't miss a cliché and made me smile again and again. There are also challenging puzzles and creative level design," writes Josef in his review of I Expect You To Die 3.
Kayak VR: Mirage
Kayak VR: Mirage is one of those VR games that pushes the boundaries of what is technically possible and strives for photorealism. It lets VR players paddle through Antarctic ice caves, along the coast of Costa Rica, under Norway's northern lights, and through Australia's canyons.
You always paddle with your own hands. A realistic and intuitive mode of transportation that fits the medium perfectly. The physics simulation affects many elements: Plants, ice floes, and debris react realistically to the kayak and paddle.
Special attention has been paid to the simulation of the sea and the animal world. You can see penguins jumping off ice cliffs, turtles coming in from the beach, and dolphins swimming alongside the boat as you increase the speed.
Moss 1 & 2
Part 1 was already one of the best VR games ever made, selling over a million copies. Controlling the little mouse wanderer Quill through a beautiful diorama landscape, solving puzzles and defeating enemies with her is great fun and creates an emotional relationship between the player and the protagonist.
The second book seamlessly picks up where the first left off, with even better gameplay and design.
"Even if you're not that into the genre, the details, animations and excellent VR craftsmanship will show you what else is possible with virtual reality. The backgrounds are a real eye opener and never fail to amaze," writes Ben in his review of Moss 2.
Both games have been significantly enhanced for Playstation VR 2.
No Man’s Sky
No Man's Sky offers VR support since 2019 on PC VR and the first Playstation VR.
However, the Echoes update for Playstation VR 2 released this summer took the game to a new level, making No Man's Sky one of the best and most beautiful titles for Sony's VR headset thanks to newly added foveated rendering support.
Paper Beast Enhanced Edition
Paper Beast plunges you into a surreal world of deserts, colorful clouds, crystals, and strange paper creatures that accompany you like a caravan through the wasteland. You must first decipher the laws of this strange world and its creatures. If you succeed, new paths will open up. The game mechanics and puzzles are always unobtrusive and fit naturally into the game world. The physics system, which realistically simulates elements such as sand and water, is also exceptional.
The Enhanced Edition offers significant improvements over the previous versions for the PSVR and PC VR headsets.
Pavlov
Vankrupt Games' Pavlov was already a veteran VR multiplayer shooter on the PC, and was launched in February 2017 as a kind of VR version of Counter-Strike.
Since then, the title has been continuously developed and received new content, such as a major update with WW2 content and new game modes.
Particularly impressive is the good gunplay, i.e. the way in which the different weapons can be used. You can also modify your weapons, for example with silencers.
In addition to the classic (team) deathmatch, defuse mode and gunplay, Pavlov now also offers capture-the-flag, push, zombies and the asymmetrical hidden hunt.
Red Matter 1 & 2
Red Matter 2 set graphical standards on PSVR 2, and now part 1 has been released for the VR headset in a graphically enhanced version. Red Matter is an exploration and puzzle game with stunning scenery and technology that no one should miss on PSVR 2.
Rez Infinite
Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Rez was already a psychedelic, musical shooter on Sega's Dreamcast console. It takes on a new dimension in VR.
On PSVR 2, in addition to the haptic feedback from the controllers and headset, there is eye-tracking support. So you can aim directly with your eyes.
Rez Infinite can also be played in standard TV mode on the PS5.
Song in the Smoke: Rekindled
There are few true survival games for virtual reality. Song in the Smoke fills that gap and more: hunting, gathering, and crafting work well in VR because the hand interactions add a tactile quality to the experience. Banging flints together, wielding a bow and arrow, and crafting weapons from simple components: It feels great and immersive to perform the movements yourself!
The VR game takes you back to a prehistoric time when there was no language and the world was full of magic and animal spirits. A story is only hinted at. Song of the Smoke is about understanding how the world works and developing survival strategies.
The Rekindled Edition is exclusive to PSVR 2 and surpasses the PSVR, Quest and even the PC VR version.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition
The very best Star Wars adventure for virtual reality has been released for PSVR 2 in a graphically improved Enhanced Edition that looks much better than the original Quest version. A must-have for Star Wars fans.
Synth Riders: Remastered Edition
The PSVR2 version of the bright neon rhythm game Synth Riders features updated graphics. Kluge Interactive has also given the game a more nuanced controller feel as you glide along the tracks, headset vibrations for in-game obstacle feedback, smooth performance, and SSD optimization for fast load times.
All in all, the musical fun feels even more immersive and seamless. The biggest highlight, however, is the high-contrast and vivid backdrop on the bright OLED screen with deep black levels.
The Light Brigade
The Light Brigade is a roguelike shooter that will keep you hooked for many hours. It offers an atmospheric world war setting, challenging battles and a motivating progression system.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Ch 1 & 2 Deluxe Edition
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is one of the best VR games of all time. The sequel continues the story of the first part.
The journey takes you back to New Orleans, devastated by a zombie apocalypse. There is a new story campaign, new areas to explore, more weapons and tools, and new game mechanics.
The new arsenal is not just variations on familiar weapons, but is designed to give you unique and new combat techniques. New additions include the silencer, new weapons such as the submachine gun and sawed-off shotgun, and a chainsaw.
Townsmen VR
The building sim Townsmen VR features 13 islands, 20 expandable buildings, a campaign, and a free sandbox mode. Ben was completely immersed in the game while reviewing Townsmen VR for PC VR and praised it as a milestone for virtual reality:
"The Settlers diorama comes to life in VR and makes me forget time and place. The controls are intuitive and well thought out, there are many buildings and professions, and the campaign maps are more varied and exciting than the others. The accompanying story of the 15-level campaign is also excellent and humorously told".
Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice
You take on the role of a Vampire in Venice. "This VR game has a fantastic atmosphere and well-designed environments. The gameplay often offers options for different strategies to complete missions: full stealth mode, targeted elimination of enemies, or simply pure violence," writes Ben in his Justice review. "Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice is a feast and makes me feel like a mighty creature of the shadow world".
Walkabout Mini Golf
Walkabout Mini Golf by Mighty Coconut is the perfect environment to play a few rounds with friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
This is due to the perfect blend of challenging courses, top-notch physics, beautiful graphics, and an underlying sense of relaxation that permeates everything about this great game.
PSVR 2 benefits include improved color, black levels and contrast. Plus, PSVR 2's Sense controllers reproduce the collision of club and ball so convincingly that it feels like the real thing. Fantastic!
