Meta already operates its proto-metaverse platform Horizon Worlds, where users can build their own virtual worlds, go to the movies together or attend immersive concerts. Actress Keke Palmer and Meta employees explain how this works in the web show "Are We There Yet?"
Keke Palmer can currently be seen on the big screen in Jordan Peele's sci-fi horror "NOPE." Shortly before its US theatrical release, the film received its own VR experience. In cooperation with Peele's production company, Meta brought NOPE to Horizon Worlds and lets users explore a 3D world created in the style of the film. In the first episode of the web show, "Are We There, Yet?", Palmer talks with Meta's Vice President of the Metaverse, Vishal Shah.

Shah takes Palmer's questions on a virtual ride through Horizon Worlds. The actress tries to approach the topic playfully and with humor. Despite all the lightheartedness, viewers are supposed to learn from the example of Horizon Worlds what the Metaverse is, what they can already do with it today and what will be possible in the future.
"I think the simplest way of thinking about it is, the metaverse is the next phase of the internet," Shah explains. The main difference Shah sees between the current Internet and the future Internet is the way people will perceive digital experiences.
"We can feel like we are there with other people in a way we can't feel in our digital experiences today. We are going to see things around us and touch things with our hands." The metaverse generally signifies a new stage of the internet, with an increased reliance on virtual and augmented reality, where people will gather, work and play," Shah says.
