There are some noticeable graphical differences between the two VR platforms. The Playstation VR 2 version features reflective surfaces and more intense fog and smoke effects. Lighting effects from the muzzle flash when firing a weapon also appear stronger on Sony's VR headset.
Overall, the PSVR 2 version has the edge graphically, but the standalone version looks surprisingly good, with decent character models and atmospheric changes between light and shadow.
YouTuber StockiVR has already put both gameplay trailers side by side. In the following video, you can see a direct comparison of both versions. You can find the individual trailers at the end of the article in the list of sources.
Metro Awakening VR is coming on November 7th
Metro Awakening VR is a narrative VR survival horror shooter that generated a lot of excitement at this year's Gamescom. A prequel to the popular Metro 2033 novel series by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, the VR game tells an origin story that takes place five years before the events of the first book.
You take on the role of Serdar, a doctor searching for his sick wife and desperately needed medicine in the subway tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow. Along the way, you must fend off bandits, mutated creatures, and the ever-present darkness.
As our first hands-on on the Playstation VR 2 showed, Metro Awakening VR impresses with a dense horror atmosphere, powerful gunplay and challenging survival mechanics such as resource scarcity. To increase immersion, Vertigo Games is relying on realistic game elements such as a physical inventory in the form of a 3D backpack and realistic weapon handling.
Metro Awakening VR will be released on November 7th for Playstation VR 2, Meta Quest 2 and 3 and for PC VR via Steam and Viveport.
