Xreal Beam Pro: New AR glasses accessory captures spatial videos and photos

Xreal has announced the Xreal Beam Pro, a companion device to the Xreal Air AR headsets with improved hardware and new spatial content creation and playback capabilities.

Xreal showcases the Xreal Beam Pro to an international audience for the first time at AWE 2024 and announces details on technology, pricing, and availability.

FACTS

What looks like a smartphone is actually the new companion device for the Xreal Air series of AR goggles. The Xreal Beam Pro runs the NebulaOS operating system, a customized version of Android 14, and can display all Android apps directly on its 6.5-inch (approx. 17 cm) LC display with 90 Hz and a resolution of 2,400 × 1,080p.

In addition to this classic smartphone features, the accessory also enables the spatial display of these apps via Xreal's AR glasses. With two 50-megapixel cameras on the back, the Xreal Beam Pro can even take 3D photos and videos that can be viewed with Xreal AR glasses. This brings Xreal closer and closer to the capabilities of the Apple Vision Pro — at least on paper.

Xreal Beam Pro offers a 3DoF experience with the Xreal Air, Xreal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro models, and a full 6DoF experience with the Xreal Air 2 Ultra, which has 3D sensors. In addition to playing 2D applications and streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ in an optimized 3DoF or 6DoF environment, Xreal Beam Pro also supports cloud gaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and Amazon Luna, as well as Steam Link.

Two variants to launch in mid-July

Two USB-C ports allow the device to be charged and connected to AR glasses at the same time. The 4,300 mAh battery and optional 5G modem provide mobility. The device supports Wi-Fi 6 as standard, while Bluetooth 5.2 enables connection to headphones, gamepads or keyboards.
