FACTS

The VR shooter Contractors Showdown from developer Caveman Studio launched its first season on July 25. The update brings several new game mechanics and features:

  • Vehicles: For the first time, players can use vehicles to move around the map. There are three different vehicle types with space for several passengers.
  • Second chance: The new game mode "The Reborn" for 30 players introduces a respawn mechanism. Players who have been eliminated can return to the current game.
  • New weapons: Melee weapons, a compound bow and light machine guns have been added to the arsenal. In addition, you can now place C4 explosive charges — even on vehicles.
  • Weather: A dynamic weather system will influence the game strategy, for example by changing visibility conditions.
  • In-game missions: Missions such as bounty hunts can now be found scattered across the map, offering rare equipment as rewards.
  • New prison system: Players who are knocked out will initially end up in a "prison". There, you compete in 1-on-1 duels against another eliminated player and can earn a second chance.
  • New characters and Battle Pass: The season introduces two new playable characters and a Battle Pass with cosmetic rewards.

The following trailer shows you all the new features of the first season of Contractors Showdown:

CONTEXT

Between PUBG and Warzone

Contractors Showdown has been available for Meta Quest and PC VR systems since April 2024. The game focuses on realistic graphics and weapons and is reminiscent of a mixture of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Call of Duty Warzone.

Up to 60 players compete against each other on a 16 square kilometer map. As is usual in battle royale games, the playing area shrinks over the course of a round.

In our hands-on with Contractors Showdown, Kevin praised the game's intuitive controls. Even beginners could quickly find their way around. Caveman Studio only recently introduced a permanent solo mode. Previously, the game could only be played in a team.
