Horizon Forbidden West & Wrath: Aeon of Ruin get VR mods

Sony's AAA title Horizon Forbidden West and the full release of the retro shooter Wrath: Aeon of Ruin are now playable in VR.

Two notable VR mods were released over Easter.

Horizon Forbidden West

The open-world game Horizon Forbidden West, which made the leap from PS5 to PC platforms on March 21, can now be played with a PC VR headset.

The VR mod was created by Luke Ross, who has previously brought titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Horizon Zero Dawn, various Far Cry games, Hogwarts Legacy, both Marvel's Spider-Man games, and Uncharted 4 to PC VR headsets.

Like Luke Ross' other VR mods, Horizon Forbidden West supports 6 DoF and is played with a gamepad.

To get access to the PC VR mod, you need to become a Patreon member for $10. You will also need Horizon Forbidden West and a powerful gaming PC.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a shooter based on a modified Quake 1 engine and is heavily inspired by first-person shooters from the 90s. The game was released in early access on Steam in 2019, and the full version was released on February 27, 2024.

Team Beef released a first build of their VR conversion of the game for Quest 2 in 2022. The first build supporting the full release and the latest update 1.1.2 was released on April 1, 2024. The trailer below shows the flatscreen version.

The game is already said to be running well, although work on it is far from complete. A Trello board shows what is still planned until the VR port is ready for a free and public release on Sidequest. Currently, you still have to be a Patreon member to play the VR conversion. As always, you must own the original game, in this case the full release of Wrath: Aeon of Ruin.

Team Beef has brought numerous classics such as Half-Life, Quake 1-3 and Doom 1-3 to standalone VR headsets. The team is currently working on a VR port of Tomb Raider and Quake 4, among others.
