FACTS

Gaijin Entertainment announced yesterday that Aces of Thunder, a VR spin-off of the popular online game War Thunder, will be released for PC VR via SteamVR in the fourth quarter of 2024. The game was originally announced as an exclusive title for Playstation VR 2. An exact release date and price will be announced at a later date.

CONTEXT

Target group maximization through PC VR conversion

Aces of Thunder was first announced for Playstation VR 2 in March 2023. Since then, the studio has released teaser material at longer and shorter intervals. The expansion to PC VR platforms could be a reaction to the subdued sales figures for Playstation VR 2, which will soon be able to be used as a PC VR headset thanks to an official adapter. By releasing on SteamVR, Gaijin Entertainment is potentially reaching a larger target group.

VR aerial combat in the Second World War

Aces of Thunder focuses on aerial combat with legendary aircraft from the Second World War. Over 20 faithfully recreated models will be available at launch, including the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra fighters, the German Bf 109 and Fw 190, the Soviet IL-2 strike aircraft, the British Spitfire fighter and the Japanese A6M3 Zero.

The game relies on physically precise flight and damage models based on War Thunder. Combat takes place exclusively from the cockpit perspective. Gaijin emphasizes that the controls of each aircraft have been recreated as realistically and accurately as possible without sacrificing comfort.
