Hideo Kojima will not show a new PSVR 2 game at the Tokyo Games Show

Update September 14, 2022:

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima clarified on Twitter that his studio will not be exhibiting any games at the Tokyo Game Show. Instead, visitors will only be able to explore a replica of Kojima Productions' entrance area in VR, including some exhibits.

Article dated August 20, 2022:

Kojima Productions is showcasing virtual reality at the Tokyo Game Show VR exhibition. Is Hideo Kojima's studio announcing a Playstation VR experience?

Before the Corona pandemic, the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) was the third-largest video game trade show after E3 and Gamescom. The show continues to expand into the virtual world as well: Like last year, there will be a virtual reality exhibition in addition to the physical event in Chiba, Japan. It can be visited with VR headsets from September 15 to 18, 2022 - the same time as the physical event.

Among the exhibitors at the VR show are well-known companies from the video game industry, including Square Enix, Sega/Atlus, Bandai Namco, Capcom and Konami. A few well-known names from the VR sector are also represented: Already confirmed are Survios (known for the boxing game Creed: Rise to Glory), Character Bank (recently released the action role-playing game Ruinsmagus), and the Japanese adventure game DYSCHRONIA: Chronos Alternate.

Is Kojima unveiling a game for Playstation VR 2?

Also confirmed for VR TGS is Kojima Productions, the studio of Hideo Kojima, creator of the legendary stealth series Metal Gear Solid. "Please stay tuned to see how the virtual space will evolve," Kojima's team wrote in the tweet announcing Tokyo Game Show VR.

Kojima is a VR enthusiast and has talked regularly since 2016 about wanting to develop for virtual reality. In late 2019, the game designer confirmed his interest, but so far he hasn't found the time.

Rumors of an unusual VR experience from Kojima Productions for PlayStation VR 2 were last heard earlier this year. They have not been confirmed yet. The VR TGS would be a fitting setting for a reveal.

Tokyo Game Show VR: Game Fair in Virtual Reality

Makuhari Messe, the organizer of Tokyo Game Show VR, also announced VR TGS: The VR exhibition's theme apparently revolves around a mysterious dungeon where visitors can have an interactive VR experience.

At the start of the exhibition, the VR app required for this will be linked on the TGS 2022 VR website. Last year, the virtual gaming venue "GAME FLOAT" could be visited via VR and via a PC monitor.
