FACTS

Innovative Eyewear Inc. has announced the worldwide release of Reebok Smart Eyewear, launching under the Lucyd Eyewear brand. The collection is available now at Lucyd.co and is expected to roll out later this quarter at Reebok.com as well as through selected online and brick-and-mortar retailers.

The initial lineup features four models designed with different sports in mind, ranging from snowboarding to jogging. Each pair comes equipped with speakers, amplifiers, microphones, and equalizers — specifically tuned to handle the unique challenges of outdoor activities and sporting environments.

Of course, the glasses only become truly “smart” when paired with a smartphone. Once connected, they give you access to AI assistants like Google’s Gemini or Apple’s Siri, support phone calls, let you record and play back voice messages, provide navigation, and let you listen to music.

Via the Lucyd app, you can also connect to a custom ChatGPT model. This opens up features like creating personalized training plans or getting AI-powered feedback on your workouts.

Battery life clocks in at around 8 hours, which should be more than enough for most training sessions. Pricing for the Reebok smart glasses is set at $199.

CONTEXT

Smart Glasses on the rise

Former Manchester City star and Olympian Micah Richards, now a sports analyst, is serving as the face of Reebok Smart Eyewear. Lucyd is betting that this partnership will help them carve out a spot in a smart glasses market predicted to hit roughly $13 billion by 2030.

Right now, the space is dominated by Meta and its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, which recently rolled out AI features to a broader audience. The latest update adds Meta AI, including live translation and other assistant capabilities.

Looking ahead, Meta is said to be planning a move into the Oakley sports brand in 2025, along with a premium headset featuring a head-up display. Google, for its part, has also shown off a prototype smart glasses model with an integrated display and onboard AI features.
