This Quest 3 mixed reality app aims to make vacuuming fun again
CleaXR is a new mixed reality app for Quest 3 that aims to make vacuuming a satisfying experience.
The mixed reality app CleaXR tracks in real time which surfaces you have cleaned and visualizes them in green. This way, you'll never miss a spot again.
Quest developers don't have access to the Quest's camera feed, so you'll need to configure the in-app tool to track your vacuum nozzle. Once that is done, the vacuuming fun can begin.
The app is in an early stage of development and only tracks the forward movement of the nozzle. But that could change: The developer is collecting ideas for improving the app in a Reddit post.
Reddit users have already come up with some interesting suggestions. How about if the floor turned to lava when you vacuumed, or a mysterious artwork, or if the floor was full of coins that you had to collect with the nozzle?
You can download and try CleaXR for free from the App Lab. It supports Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
Games like Power Wash Simulator VR show that chores like cleaning objects can be fun and even addictive. Mixed reality has great potential for utility, and apps like CleaXR are proving it.
The idea of a mixed reality vacuum cleaning assistant isn't new: XR experimentalist Daniel "Pushmatrix" Beauchamp illustrated the concept earlier this year and landed a viral clip.

In April, vacuum manufacturer Dyson announced "CleanTrace", an AR feature that visualizes in real time which areas of the floor have been cleaned. The feature is available in the company's iOS app and requires an iPhone 12 Pro or higher.
Headsets are not supported, but we can imagine that this will change at some point in the future.
