Those who have been following the rumors about Playstation VR 2 for a while now won't have been particularly surprised by the latest announcements. After all, the specifications have already been leaked in May 2021.

There was not much news and Sony did not answer the three most important questions:

  • What do the VR glasses look like?
  • When will they be released?
  • How much will they cost?

Rumor: A big Playstation event is coming

Sony could soon provide the answers. Rumors are currently doing the rounds that a big Playstation event is planned for February. The well-informed games journalist and leaker Tom Henderson writes on Twitter about rumors that Sony is hosting a State of Play in February, which could be "pretty big" in his estimation.

Sony stopped attending E3 in 2019 and has since announced major news at State of Plays or the Playstation Showcase, which takes place in the fall.

2022 is expected to be the biggest year yet for Playstation 5, with exclusive titles like Horizon Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7 - and of course the launch of Playstation VR 2.

It would make sense for Sony to start the new year with a big gaming event and announce the market launch of the VR glasses.

Playstation VR 2: Launch as early as mid-2022?

According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the launch is set for the second quarter of 2022 and Youtuber Brad Lynch reported that mass production of the devices will start soon. If these rumors are true, an early unveiling of the Playstation VR 2 would be likely.

In addition to appearance, price, and launch date, Sony is expected to unveil more exclusive titles for the VR glasses. So far, the company has only announced the Horizon spin-off Call of the Mountain, without revealing too much about the game.

According to recent rumors, the fabulous Half-Life: Alyx might be coming for Playstation VR 2. Furthermore, we can expect remasters of PSVR games as well as hybrid AAA titles that can optionally be played with Sonys VR glasses. Games like Resident Evil Village or Gran Turismo 7 would be conceivable.
