Pico 4S could be coming sooner than you think
Pico 4S could be launching soon. This is indicated by the certification of a new Pico headset by a South Korean regulator.
The Radio Research Agency (RRA), a South Korean certification body for radio and communication devices, has apparently certified a new Pico headset. A certification usually indicates an imminent launch.
Brad Lynch pointed to the certification via X.

The model name A9210 is identical to a Pico headset that recently appeared in a public CPU benchmark (see UploadVR in the sources). According to this benchmark, the headset could use the same chipset as Quest 3 in combination with 12 GB RAM.
Pico itself has not yet announced a headset, but trademarked Pico 4S in March. There are also indications that the new headset will come with ringless controllers, similar to the Quest 3.
What does Bytedance hope to achieve with Pico 4S?
According to a report by The Information, Pico 5 has been scrapped after sales of Pico 4 fell far short of the expectations of Pico owner Bytedance. However, work continued on an "updated version of the Pico 4," according to the website's sources. This headset is likely to be the Pico 4S.
What Bytedance and Pico hope to achieve with the new product will only become clear when the announcement is made and the specifications are revealed. The companies will likely try to compete with Meta's rumored Quest 3S low-end headset.
Pico 4 was released in October 2022 in Europe and a few other countries, but not in the United States, the largest VR market. Its global impact was therefore modest. For Pico 4S not to suffer the same fate, Bytedance needs to challenge Meta in its home market.
