FACTS

The FCC tests electronic devices that use wireless technology for compliance with standards. Products must be approved by the FCC before they can enter the U.S. market. When FCC records show that a product has received approval, it is often an indication that a launch is imminent. This has been the case with the Quest 3 and many other devices.

The website 91mobiles (see sources below) has discovered FCC documents that point to a new VR headset from Meta. The product is identified as the 2AGOZ-P97. MIXED did a search and found numerous FCC documents for the product that were uploaded on September 1 (and earlier).

The product name is not mentioned anywhere, but it will most likely be Meta Quest 3S or whatever Meta will call the new device. According to the documents, the device will support Wi-Fi 6E like the Quest 3.

CONTEXT

What is Meta Quest 3S?

The Meta Quest 3S will be a cheaper version of the Quest 3 and will replace the sold-out Quest 2.

The headset will reportedly have the more powerful chipset of the Quest 3, color pass-through, the same ringless controllers and feature parity in the software, but will use the lower resolution display and Fresnel lenses of the Quest 2. The price is expected to be around $300. The Quest 3 costs $500.

The headset is expected to be unveiled at Meta Connect 2024 on September 25th. With the less expensive, but significantly more powerful headset, Meta is hoping for the same success as the Quest 2 or better. Exclusive titles like the upcoming Batman: Arkham Shadow are expected to boost sales this holiday season.
