FACTS

In the USA, the streaming service Peacock is already airing commercials for the Meta Quest 3S. At the end of the commercial, the Quest 3S appears as an image next to the Quest 3 with the headline "Meta Quest — Starting at $299.99". Below an Amazon logo, the following is printed in small type: "Meta Quest 3S 128GB is $299.99. Content sold separately". It is not clear from the ad whether the VR controllers are included in the price.

Reddit user Vast_Front259 shared the ad, but was unable to record it directly on his smartphone due to Peacock's DRM lock. Instead, he recorded the ad on his webcam on the third try. As a result, the quality is not very good, and the ad is not available in full length. The video is available on Reddit.

CONTEXT

Meta Quest 3S: The VR Industry's Worst-Kept Secret

Reports and leaks about the yet-to-be-announced Quest 3S have been piling up lately. Just yesterday, we reported on a South Korean online store listing the 128GB Meta Quest 3S for the equivalent of $299, the same price as in the Peacock commercial. This would make the Quest 3S the cheapest standalone VR headset on the market today, and if the performance is right, it could be an excellent entry-level device.

Although the Meta Quest 3S will be a budget version of the Quest 3, it will be based on the same chipset and support the ringless Touch Plus Controllers. RGB passthrough is also available, but unlike the Quest 3, Meta uses an older LC display with the Fresnel lenses of the Quest 2. There should be no differences on the software side.
