In this VR game, you take your eye out of your head and observe yourself
With Sight Unseen, a student develops an unusual VR game that lets you take a cyborg eye out of your head and throw it around corners.
Sight Unseen is a virtual reality prototype that uses the player's two eyes in an innovative way. As developer Harry Petch announced on the gaming platform itch.io, players are equipped with a cybernetic eye that enables infrared vision — but only in one half of the field of view.
The central game mechanic allows this artificial eye to be removed from the head and thrown around corners. This allows players to see from different positions at the same time to find enemies and hidden codes necessary to progress.
Playable with Meta Quest via Link
Sight Unseen is currently available as a prototype for Windows and Android. The game runs on Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and other VR headsets as long as they have controllers with A/B/X/Y buttons. You will need either Quest Link or SteamVR to connect to your PC.
The current version 1.3 includes a revised tutorial level. It is currently unknown if and when a final version will be released.
The game was developed as a final year project by a student solo developer at Abertay University and won the Gameplay and Systems Award from Outplay Entertainment at the Abertay Digital Graduate Show 2024.
In the following video, you can see a playthrough and how the innovative viewing angle mechanic can be used in the app.
