Work on Apple Vision Pro 2 reportedly suspended, cheaper model still in development

Apple has stopped work on the direct successor to the Vision Pro and is instead focusing on a more affordable model, according to a new report.

Bad news for the VR industry: Apple has reportedly halted development on its next premium headset and Vision Pro successor.

This is reported by The Information. The website cites an employee of a supplier that makes key components for the Vision Pro and has been notified accordingly by Apple. The Information is considered a reliable source and reported on the development of the product long before the Apple Vision Pro was unveiled.

The site also claims to have learned from two people involved in the supply chain and manufacturing that Apple is continuing to work on a cheaper Vision Pro model with fewer features, which is planned for late 2025 at the earliest.

The Information also reports that one supplier cut component production in half in May because Apple predicted weaker demand through August. The supplier had produced components for 460,000 Vision Pros through April and plans to produce parts for an additional 100,000 units between May and August. In June and July, Apple Vision Pro is being launched in several countries outside the US.

"The numbers suggest that Apple has at most produced about half a million units this year and doesn’t expect to make significantly more than that through August," writes The Information.
