Online VR games EVE: Valkyrie and Sparc - servers are shut down

EVE: Valkyrie and Sparc will no longer be supported by their development teams and the servers will be shut down. How long will the VR games still be playable online?

The developer studio CCP Games is discontinuing two of its VR games. EVE: Valkyrie ends the life cycle of one of the first VR online multiplayer games. Those who like to throw virtual cyber balls in Sparc will also soon have to seek an alternative.

EVE: Valkyrie and Sparc say goodbye

EVE: Valkyrie was released in September 2017 exclusively for the now discontinued Oculus Rift (S). Versions for the rest of the PC VR headsets and Playstation VR followed shortly thereafter.

In the first-person shooter, you sit in the cockpit of a spaceship and engage in multiplayer battles in space. Sparc also came out in 2017 and aimed to establish a new "vSport" style. Two players face off in a small arena, armed with a shield and a ball, and shoot each other.

On Steam, the spin-off of the successful MMO EVE Online and the VR sports title are meanwhile no longer for sale. In the Playstation Store, the search remains fruitless. None of the titles has made it to Meta Quest 2 yet.

CCP Games shuts down the servers

CCP Games released a statement on July 1 regarding the end of EVE: Valkyrie. The team had discontinued support for EVE: Valkyrie to focus CCP Games' efforts and resources on new developments in the evolving portfolio of EVE Universe titles.

"Until further notice" there will be no impact for owners of the game, it will remain playable. However, in full only until August 5, 2022, when CCP Games will shut down the servers for online games. When the servers are shut down, customer support will also cease. In addition, CCP will take social media and websites for the games offline. The same schedule applies to Sparc.
