Alex and the Jets on Quest 3: Your kids will love this mixed reality game

Alex and the Jets is a kid-friendly mixed reality game that turns your living room into a stage for fierce dogfights.

Alex & The Jets is a small but polished game that combines two of my favorite things in the world: mixed reality and donuts.

You control Alex the squirrel around your apartment, collecting power-ups by flying through donuts and fending off increasingly dangerous waves of enemies. You can use short bursts of speed to evade your enemies and strategically use shields, poison, or missiles.

The plane is controlled with the thumbstick, which takes some getting used to. After all, you can see the small, nimble plane from many different perspectives. Especially if you walk around the room while playing, which I highly recommend. It's a lot of fun to move around the room during dogfights and get the most dramatic camera angles possible. You can see what this looks like in a short video I made of a boss fight.

Your kids will love it … and maybe you will too

Alex and the Jets has two game modes: a survival mode in which you must face endless waves of enemies and collect coins, and a free-roam mode in which you can fly around your own apartment and practice maneuvers. The game requires a room scan, and then lets Alex realistically bounce off your walls and furniture.

The more space you have, the more fun the mixed reality game will be. Remember that you can use Meta Quest 3 and 3S to scan multiple rooms and combine them into a single play area. Just be careful not to trip or collide with your roommates or family members as you play.
