Meta Quest's improved Boundary eliminates so much friction

Meta has simplified the Boundary system with an update that makes everyday VR use much more convenient.
The Boundary improvements were first announced for v69 (September 2024) and reappeared in the release notes for v72 (December 2024).
Recently, the improved Boundary system reached my Meta Quest and proved to be a game changer in terms of VR usability. It makes everyday use of seated and standing VR so much easier that I wonder why it took Meta so long to introduce it.
I use VR mostly sitting down, and until recently, almost every time I put on the headset and launched a VR app, I was asked if I wanted to set a boundary. I had two options: a stationary boundary, which was way too small and triggered every time I changed my position slightly, or a roomscale boundary, which often required me to stand up and draw outlines on the floor or a large circle around me.
It's incredible the obstacles Meta puts in your way before you can even start using VR. And then you wonder why so many headsets end up in a closet or drawer after a while.
Here's how the improved Boundary system looks and works
The new Boundary system automatically creates a sufficiently large stationary boundary.
When I leave the area, the environment is gently faded in via passthrough. If I want to continue using VR at another location in the room, I can simply go there, and the system will ask me if I want to create a new fixed boundary at the new location. The old boundary and the exit from it are visualized in a neat way.
I recorded a video demonstrating the improved Boundary system. In the video, I change my position three times, switching between pure passthrough mode and a fully immersive game. Note that Meta Quest doesn't record the UI element that gives me the option to create a new stationary boundary. All you see is me confirming it with the controller.
Of course, if you play VR games where you move around a lot in your room, you will still need to draw a roomscale boundary. However, if you are standing in one place, the stationary boundary is completely sufficient.
