Pico 4 Ultra is getting 2D-to-3D photo conversion in next update
The upcoming Pico OS 5.13.0.U beta update brings several major improvements to the Pico 4 Ultra headset, including freely positionable windows and the ability to convert regular photos into spatial ones.
Pico just announced the beta version of OS 5.13.0.U for their Pico 4 Ultra headset. According to the company, this update includes extensive optimizations and bug fixes across the board.
One of the biggest additions is the ability to freely adjust both distance and position of window applications in PanoScreen. The photo app is getting a significant upgrade too — users will be able to convert standard 2D photos into spatial photos, including batch processing for multiple images at once.
For the more technically inclined, Pico is adding a performance tuner in the developer settings. This lets users fine-tune their experience by adjusting refresh rate, resolution (eyebuffer), CPU level, GPU level, and FFR level for XR applications.
The update also introduces spatial video recording of screen content, which can be played back through the photo app. Users will now have control over how long their screen stays on before automatic shutdown through the display and brightness settings.
How to join the beta
If you're interested in testing these features early, Pico is accepting beta registrations until March 7, 2025 at 4:59:59 PM (GMT +1). Once registered with your device's serial number, you'll receive access to the beta version.
Beta testers can join two feedback groups through the Lark app: one for direct communication with developers, and another for submitting bug reports and suggestions. Pico provides detailed instructions for setting up a Lark account.

Welcome improvements for Pico 4 Ultra
When I reviewed the Pico 4 Ultra, I noted that its software needed more polish compared to Meta's operating system — particularly around translation issues and stability. This update appears to address some of these concerns.
The Pico 4 Ultra positions itself as a competitor to Meta's Quest 3, using the same Qualcomm XR 2 Gen2 chip. With 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, plus an iToF depth sensor and dual 32MP front cameras, it's capable of both mixed reality and spatial photo or video capture.
