Valve's new VR headset will reportedly arrive in 2025 with a hefty price tag

Valve is planning to release a high-end VR headset later this year, according to a leaker who closely follows Valve news.
Youtuber, data miner, and Valve enthusiast Gabe Follower points to "several people" who have confirmed to him that Valve is planning to release a standalone, wireless VR headset (codenamed Deckard) by the end of 2025.
The target price is said to be $1,200 for the "full bundle". This probably means the headset and two VR controllers. The price also includes some already finished games or demos developed by Valve, according to Gabe Follower.

According to his description, Valve is planning a high-end device. Gabe Follower writes that Valve wants to deliver the "best possible experience without cutting any costs". Even at a price of $1,200, the product would be sold at a loss, according to Gabe Follower.
The headset is said to be based on a version of SteamOS that has been adapted for virtual reality. SteamOS is the Steam Deck's operating system. One of the key features will be the ability to play Steam Deck titles on a large virtual screen without the need for a PC, writes Gabe Follower.
The first presentations behind closed doors could begin soon, according to the leaker.
MIXED believes these latest rumors to be credible.
Rumors of a new Valve headset, codenamed Deckard, have been circulating for many years, but have become more credible in recent months.
In November, VR enthusiast Brad Lynch and his team of SteamVR dataminers found references and 3D models of new VR controllers codenamed Roy, and Lynch himself wrote, citing his sources, that the controllers are currently being tooled for mass production.
Deckard and Roy: The code names are obvious references to the protagonist and antagonist of the same name in the sci-fi film Blade Runner, suggesting that these projects are related.
Valve's first VR headset, Valve Index, was released in 2019, and almost six years later, some of its specs and design features are outdated. Valve Index is a wired PC VR headset that requires external tracking units, called base stations.
According to Gabe Follower, the new VR headset will be wireless and will not require a PC. Unfortunately, the Valve leaker does not say anything about how the device will interact with a PC and render VR games.
