FACTS

One day after Camouflaj released the third major update for Batman: Arkham Shadow, Meta's first-party VR studio announced the "Game of the Year" update.

It will bring three new Predator maps inspired by classic Arkham, a new Extreme difficulty, and an "I Am the Knight" mode. The latter could be the New Game+ mode with permadeath, but this is just speculation on my part.

The update will come out in February.

CONTEXT

What is Batman: Arkham Shadow?

Batman: Arkham Shadow is a game in the Arkham series designed from the ground up for virtual reality. It was developed by Meta's first-party studio Camouflaj (Marvel's Iron Man VR), which was acquired by Meta in 2022.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is being touted as one of the best VR games of 2024 and is included free with every new Quest 3S or Quest 3 purchase until the end of April 2025.

"The mix of action, exploring and never too difficult detective puzzles works smoothly and Camouflaj has managed to transfer the feeling of the free-flowing fights from the original to VR perfectly. Thanks to the targeted addition of new moves and enemies, the combat system remains fun and varied even in the later stages of the game, even if it can get a little tiring at times."

Three major updates have been released for the VR game so far:

With update 1.1, Camouflaj has made more than 1300 changes to the game. These include memory optimizations, fixes for progress blockers, quality of life improvements, and a reduction in crash errors.

Update 1.2 added a character view, four new challenge maps, voice acting for several new languages and several other improvements in the areas of audio, haptics, cutscenes, gameplay, and user interface.

With update 1.3, Camouflaj introduced a new Game+ mode with a new post-credits scene and two endless modes for the Combat and Predator challenges.
