Star Wars' Daisy Ridley voices automotive pioneer in upcoming VR experience on Meta Quest
A 19th century road trip that changed transportation forever. Step into the shoes of the woman who proved cars could work.
A new VR experience called "Trailblazer" is coming to Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 on March 7, 2025. Directed by Emmy nominee Eloise Singer and backed by the executive producers of "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "The Pirate Queen," the experience features Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley as the voice of Bertha Benz.
The story follows Bertha Benz, who challenged social expectations in 1888 by taking the world's first long-distance car journey, an act that would help shape the future of transportation.
"Trailblazer" has already made the rounds at major festivals, showing at Venice Film Festival (2022), SXSW (2023) and Sheffield Doc Fest (2023), where it earned a Three Lions Award nomination. Meta Quest users can expect additional content including behind-the-scenes footage, concept art, trailers and regular updates.
Changing the world on a road trip
The experience puts users in the shoes of Bertha Benz, who took a bold risk to prove her husband Karl Benz's early automobile could work as reliable transportation. Her unauthorized 75-mile journey across Germany in 1888 did more than just test the car's capabilities — it helped convince a skeptical public that automobiles had a future.
Singer is no stranger to bringing historical figures to life in VR. Her previous project The Pirate Queen told the story of Chinese pirate Zheng Yisao, earning praise for its rich narrative and detailed recreation of Chinese culture.
