Become a bouncer in the viral VR hit "I Am Security"
The VR game I Am Security puts you in the role of a bouncer. I tried it on Meta Quest 3.
You take on the role of a bouncer who has to decide who gets into the club and who does not.
On the one hand, you are responsible for security, scanning guests with a metal detector and confiscating unwanted items. On the other hand, you are responsible for the style and hygiene of the partygoers. You can shave hair, remove uncool tattoos, and spray guests with water.
The game shows you what is desirable and what is not. You have to follow the rules, but you also have creative freedom: Confiscated items can be turned into money, which you can use to buy fancy clothes for partygoers.
A calculated hit
I took a brief look at the game, and it reminded me a lot of the pet care simulation Pets & Stuff in terms of style and gameplay. I Am Security is designed for accessibility: It eschews artificial locomotion and thrives on interaction with the immediate environment, situational comedy, and stylized graphics. This is the same recipe that made Job Simulator a huge success almost a decade ago.
I Am Security was released in Early Access at the beginning of summer 2024 and has since become a viral hit. The game is on the list of the most popular apps as well as the lists of the top-selling and top-earning games of the week. It currently has almost 35,000 ratings.
I Am Security is being developed by New Folder Games, which has already scored two hits with Titan's Clinic and, in particular, I Am Cat.
You can purchase I Am Security from the Horizon Store. A version for Playstation VR 2 and Steam is in development.
