This AI-controlled punching bag projects a life-size fitness coach into your living room
The Startup Growl presents a revolutionary punching bag with integrated AI trainer and projection technology. The innovative fitness trainer will be available for the whole family in 2025.
Growl, a connected fitness startup based in Austin, Texas, recently unveiled its first product: A smart punching bag with a built-in AI coach that combines fitness training with augmented reality. The company announced that it has secured $4.75 million in seed funding from investors including Skip Capital, Kima Ventures and former UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane.
According to Growl, the system combines high-definition projection technology with cutting-edge AI computing to bring a life-size, interactive trainer to the home workout. Multiple cameras capture the user's movements in 3D and provide real-time feedback, while infrared sensors transform the surface of the punching bag into a responsive touch surface.
The wall-mounted system is as compact as a shelf and offers a variety of workouts — from technical boxing to strength training and yoga. Designed for the whole family, the system is suitable for ages 10 and up.
AI trainer and Unreal Engine for immersive training
The Growl boxing trainer offers these features:
- Life-size interactive trainer with AI-driven real-time feedback
- Authentic punching bag resistance for intense cardio and strength training
- Unreal Engine based gameplay for added motivation
- Family-friendly workouts for all ages and skill levels
- 3D motion tracking and Edge AI for personalized workout advice
Growl will be available in April 2025. The system will be positioned in the premium segment and will cost $150 per month for a 48-month plan or $190 per month for a 36-month plan, including hardware and subscription fees.
