FACTS

Developer DoubleMe has announced that the Mixed Reality game Vivarium will also be released on the Meta Horizon Store for Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest 2 in April 2025. Previously, the terrarium simulator was only available for Pico headsets.

Don't miss out: in the MIXED Advent Calendar, you can win VR games or VR accessories every day.

On 19 December 2024, players will also receive a free Christmas update with 17 new items, including a Christmas tree and seasonal decorations. The game environment will also be decorated for the season and Christmas carols will be added as background music.

Vivarium currently features seven different animal species, including frogs, turtles and geckos, and over 27 plant species. There are 46 different decorative items available to decorate the terrariums, including miniature trains and an Eiffel Tower. More species will be added before the Meta Quest release.

CONTEXT

Creative ecosystems in mixed reality

Vivarium allows players to create and maintain their own ecosystems. The game combines terrarium design with animal and plant care. You choose glass containers and decorate them with different materials such as soil, rocks, and moss.

The terrariums you create can be placed either in a virtual gallery or in your own room using mixed reality. A mission mode provides additional challenges and rewards. Players must water the plants and feed the animals to keep their ecosystem alive.

According to developer DoubleMe, the game is aimed at all ages and is primarily intended to provide relaxation and a connection to nature in virtual reality.
