FACTS

Videos showing Batman: Arkham Shadow on Quest 2 are circulating on Reddit, YouTube and X.

Users claim that the VR game runs "fine" on the last-gen headset, but doesn't look as good as it does on Quest 3, and occasionally crashes or has visual glitches.

In order to play Batman: Arkham Shadow on Quest 2, users must have downloaded and tampered with the game's APK, which we strongly advise against as it may be against the law and certainly against the Meta Quest ToS. Not only could you have a bad experience and ruin this otherwise excellent game for yourself, but you could also risk having your Meta account banned.

CONTEXT

The same thing happened with Resident Evil 4

Batman: Arkham Shadow was released on October 22nd, 2024 as a system seller for the Quest 3S and Quest 3. The Meta-produced VR game is included with the purchase of the devices until the end of April 2025. As an exclusive title, it was optimized exclusively for the two next-gen systems, unlike Asgard's Wrath 2, which was also released for Quest 2.

Technically, the hack is interesting because it shows that Batman: Arkham Shadow could run well on Quest 2, albeit with some loss of graphical fidelity.

This is not the first time users have run a next-gen VR title on a last-gen headset. The same thing happened in 2021 with Resident Evil 4, the first major exclusive title for Quest 2, with some users installing and playing it on the original Quest.
