Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses also a hit in Europe
The Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses do not have AI features in Europe, but are still a bestseller.
Stefano Grassi, the CFO of Ray-Ban's parent company EssilorLuxottica, revealed during the company's latest quarterly results that the smart glasses are the best-selling product in 60 percent of Ray-Ban stores in the EMEA region.
Here is his statement from a conference call with investors:
"Ray-Ban Meta, very happy about the performance that we've seen. I mean, it's an overall success story that we see. Just to give you an idea, it's not just a success in the US, where it's obvious. But it's also success here in Europe. Just to give you an idea, in 60% of the Ray-Ban stores in Europe, in EMEA, Ray-Ban Meta is the bestseller in those stores. So it's something that is extremely pleasing."
According to the Ray-Ban website, there are 125 official Ray-Ban stores worldwide. 42 of these stores are located in EMEA countries where Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are supported. The product is therefore available in at least 25 Ray-Ban stores.
Official sales figures from EssilorLuxottica or Meta are not available.
Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses and what could come next
One of the most attractive features of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, provided by Meta AI, are not available in Europe for regulatory reasons. But this does not seem to be stopping many European customers from buying a wearable.
In September, Meta announced many new AI features, including real-time translation between English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The glasses will also be able to remind users of what they have seen when asked.
Meta is reportedly planning glasses with a simple viewfinder display for next year, but it is unclear whether EssilorLuxottica will be involved in its development. The partners recently extended their partnership for ten years.
The display glasses will not be a full-fledged AR glasses like the Orion prototype. Meta's CTO said in his most recent Q&A session on Instagram: "I don't think it's all AR glasses or nothing. I think there's a continuum."
