Hotel R'n'R is a chaotic and humorous VR game that throws you right into the world of a struggling rock star. The gameplay is simple but ingenious: through a pact with the devil, you are tasked with destroying hotels to save your career. The appeal of the game lies in the combination of physics-based destruction and the achievement of ever greater chaos. I tried it out for you to see how it feels.

The first hotel rooms — destruction with care

As soon as I started the game in Meta Quest 3, I realized the situation: My life as a rock star has failed, but the devil himself offers me one last chance at fame. In order to do so, however, I must reduce hotel rooms and other environments to rubble. This is where the principle of the game becomes clear: it's all about unbridled fun and the freedom to destroy things.

My first level takes me to a rather modest hotel room, which I have to destroy within five minutes. The physical interactions in the game are impressive. Every object in the room reacts relatively realistically to my actions. A TV shatters when I throw it against the wall, and a chair breaks when I hit it with my fist.

But it's not just about random destruction. Over time, I realized that strategy is required if I want to inflict maximum damage in the allotted time. I start deliberately destroying expensive items such as artwork and furniture, while trying to hide from approaching security personnel.

Weapons and upgrades — the way to effective destruction in Hotel R'n'R

As soon as I have successfully reduced the first hotel rooms to rubble, I have the opportunity to unlock new weapons and upgrades with the money I have earned. The shop is well stocked with everything from sledgehammers to fireworks. There is a large selection of tools to create even more effective destruction.

I decided to buy a nail gun, and the very next level shows that this was a good decision. With this weapon, I can shoot at objects quickly and accurately, causing a lot of damage in a short amount of time.

Physics-based destruction — where every detail counts

Hotel R'n'R impresses with its attention to detail in the physics-based simulation. It's not just the sheer destruction that makes it so appealing, but also the way each object reacts to my actions. One particularly impressive moment was when I shot a chandelier with my nail gun, and it fell to the ground, shattering into hundreds of pieces. This interplay of action and realistic physics gives the game a depth that goes beyond the pure fun of destruction.

While I started out running through the rooms randomly, the game forced me to act more and more strategic. Some items are difficult to destroy, and I have to decide whether to waste my valuable time on large pieces of furniture or go for smaller, more expensive items that can be removed more quickly. These tactical considerations make Hotel R'n'R varied and constantly challenge me to try new approaches.
