FACTS

Sony has released a new update to the Playstation VR 2 App for PC. Anyone using PSVR 2 on a PC via the official adapter will benefit from a number of improvements and bug fixes.

Performance improvements

Sony has fixed a nasty bug that caused a kind of distortion in the PSVR 2 image when you moved your head sideways. Some users mistook this distortion for Sony's controversial reprojection rendering technology, but it did not occur when using the  PSVR 2 on PS5.

With the 2.0.0 update, turning your head should no longer cause the image to be distorted. Sony has also improved the performance, stability, and usability of the application.

Adjustable frame rate for AMD graphics cards

With version 2.0.0, users with an AMD Radeon RX graphics card can now adjust the refresh rate of the VR headset.

To do so, open the menu in the SteamVR status window of the SteamVR app and select [Settings] > [General].

If you are already wearing the PSVR 2, you can also change the refresh rate from the SteamVR dashboard under [VR Settings] > [General].

Update for Bluetooth adapter with compatibility issues

Sony originally listed the "TP-Link UB500" Bluetooth adapter as a verified product on the Playstation support page. However, this adapter also had compatibility issues with the PSVR 2. TP-Link has released a new driver to fix this problem. You can find the link at the bottom of the article.

CONTEXT

PSVR 2 on PC with teething problems

In August, Sony released the PC adapter for Playstation VR 2, which allows you to connect the VR headset directly to your PC. The adapter costs around $60 and requires a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, a Steam account and a PC that meets the minimum requirements. It is set up via the Playstation VR2 app and the SteamVR app.

Key PSVR 2 features such as HDR, haptic feedback from the controllers and headset, eye tracking and 3D audio are not supported on the PC. However, features like 2K resolution per eye, 110-degree field of view, and finger tracking are still available.

According to Sony, PC support was part of the PSVR 2 design process from the beginning, although slow sales of the headset may have accelerated the development of PC compatibility.

In our review, we were unable to get PSVR 2 to work on a PC with the adapter. In addition, many users reported problems with Bluetooth pairing with the VR controllers. We will try the adapter again with the latest update of the PSVR 2 app soon and provide an updated review.
