The Quest game Metamorphosis VR lets you experience the world from a bug's perspective
Metamorphosis VR puts you in the role of a man who is transformed into a cockroach in early 20th century Vienna.
Newly founded VR studio Black Sun Productions announces its first VR game.
In Metamorphosis VR, you play a traveling salesman who wakes up as a cockroach after a night on the town. Lost in a strange new world, you must find a way to save your best friend and regain your humanity.
Players embark on a journey between walls and floorboards, where bug philosophers, insect mob bosses, and creepy-crawly thespians reside. The studio promises a rich and diverse cast of over 100 insect characters, bizarre locations to explore and multiple endings.
Metamorphosis VR will be released on October 10, 2024 for Meta Quest 3 and 2, and you can already add it to your wishlist in the Horizon Store.
Inspired by Kafka's "Metamorphosis"
Metamorphosis VR is a VR port of the 2020 game Metamorphosis, which in turn is inspired by Franz Kafka's classic novella "The Metamorphosis" (1912).
"We chose Metamorphosis as our debut title for Black Sun because of its surreal, Kafkaesque world – some of the richest and most immersive environments imagined – offers a perfect opportunity to bring this extraordinary experience to virtual reality," says Corbin Chase, CEO of Black Sun Productions in a prepared statement. "One of VR's most powerful abilities is how it changes our perspective and sense of scale, and Metamorphosis uniquely combines confusion, bewilderment, wonder and beauty. All imparted by that shift in perspective, it feels like this game was always meant for VR."
Surreal and magical worlds are a perfect fit for virtual reality. Think of titles like A Fisherman's Tale, Paper Beast, Maskmaker, or Moss. We hope that the VR adaptation will be a success and that we can expect a similarly magical experience.
