What awaits you in Grokit
Grokit is a mixed reality party game for Meta Quest, inspired by classic titles such as WarioWare and Mario Party. The game uses the hand tracking of the Quest headsets and completely dispenses with controllers. Instead, players have to act with their hands in short, fast-paced mini-games.
According to 3lb Games, up to four people can take part in a game at the same time. A card explaining the required hand gestures is displayed at the start of each mini-game. The developers state that the interactions are intuitive, so that players quickly understand what needs to be done.
A special feature of Grokit is the use of the mixed reality mode of the Quest headsets. You can play the game in your own room with passthrough or in virtual environments. Grokit uses the Quest's room detection to recognize furniture and walls and incorporate them into the game mechanics.
3lb Games emphasizes the deterministic multiplayer physics of Grokit. This means that all players should see and hear the same interactions as if they were in the same room. For example, if an object falls onto a table, all participants will perceive this.
Grokit offers various customization options for avatars, hats, and watches as well as a selection of environments and music. The developers see their game as a good option for VR newcomers, as it is easy to understand and can be played in short sessions.
Since its release in October 2023, 3lb Games has released several updates for Grokit. The latest summer update "Twilight Echoes" adds new mini-games, customization options and features. These include a Vault of Stars theme and an improved microbot companion with voice output.
