The VR game Chernobyl Again takes you to 3D scanned original locations
Chernobyl Again is an adventure game for Meta Quest and PC VR, in which you travel through time to prevent the nuclear disaster.
In Chernobyl Again, you take on the role of Olena Ponomarenko, a Ukrainian scientist who has discovered time travel and is sent on a secret and dangerous mission to change the course of history. Equally important to the game is Ponomarenko's relationship with her deceased parents. The desire to see them again drove the scientist to her discovery.
Ponomarenko is torn between her idealistic motives and powerful political forces who want to use her research to restore the old world order. She must decide whether to obey orders or seek allies to help her thwart these plans.
The VR game focuses on exploration and puzzles. Studio Vimagineo promises a plot full of twists and turns.
Chernobyl Again is coming soon to the Quest Store and Steam. There is also a listing on the Playstation Store. Back in February, a PC VR demo of Chernobyl Again was available on Steam as part of the Steam Next Fest.
Photogrammetry and 3D scanning for lifelike environments
A special feature of Chernobyl Again is that the team visited and scanned the original sites of the disaster (see video below). In the VR game, you can explore digital duplicates of key locations, including the nuclear power plant's control room and parts of the ghost town of Pripyat.
The studio has extensive experience in 3D scanning and was previously involved in the development of the Chernobyl VR Project.
