FACTS

We are in the middle of summer and this is the time when VR is used the least. Meta has come up with a new promotion to pique the curiosity of VR enthusiasts and get them into their headsets.

The so-called Free Weekends will run from July 12 to August 12 and will unlock two acclaimed multiplayer games each weekend that you can play for free for one hour.

Those who play long enough will receive a code via email for a 20 percent discount on the game. The code is valid for up to five days after the free weekend ends. You can pre-download the games now so that you’re ready to go on Friday.

CONTEXT

First free weekend features Breachers and Racket Club

The first weekend runs from Friday, July 12, 3 p.m. to Monday, July 15, 1 a.m.

Breachers

Breachers is a tactical shooter that brings the gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege to virtual reality. In 5v5 multiplayer battles, you take on the role of both attacker and defender, with both sides having access to a variety of weapons and gadgets.

Kevin went hands-on with Breachers on Quest 3 and writes in his conclusion.

"Breachers does many things right and stands out from other VR shooters. With enough varied maps and an offline training mode against bots, the game offers a lot of content. The developers also release new content or major updates every two months or so, expanding or improving the gaming experience long after the game has been released.

The well-thought-out gameplay with switching between the roles of attacker and defender, the clever mechanics, the excellent gunplay and the audiovisual presentation make this title one of the best examples of the VR tactical shooter genre".

Racket Club

The latest VR game from Resolution Games (Demeo, Blaston, Spatial Ops) takes inspiration from tennis, squash and pickleball to invent a new racquet sport tailor-made for virtual reality. It offers numerous game modes, including a competitive singles and doubles mode, a career mode, and a training mode against AI opponents. The VR game is regularly updated with new content and features.

With easy-to-understand rules, great ball physics, and intense matches, the game is suitable for both beginners and competitive players, while the mixed reality mode allows for carefree play in your living room, I wrote in my Racket Club review.
