Beat Saber reclaims top spot on PSVR 2 charts amid drought of new VR games
With fewer and fewer new games coming to PSVR 2 this summer, Beat Saber is once again the top-selling game.
The Playstation Store top downloads are released once a month and give an idea of the sales success of the listed VR games compared to others. Most PSVR 2 titles are only available as digital downloads.
Below are the top downloads for June 2024, broken down by North America and EU regions:
Over the past few months, the supply of new PSVR 2 games has gradually dried up. In June, for example, Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye was released … and I'm not sure what else. Unfortunately, this gem of a VR game did not make it into the top downloads.
Instead, older titles that appear on the list every month dominated: Beat Saber, Pavlov, Among Us VR, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Job Simulator. Stale charts are not a good sign for the ecosystem. We saw something similar with the first Playstation VR, where Beat Saber was at the top for years.
At least Kayak VR: Mirage made it back to the top downloads, thanks to the beautiful Soča Valley DLC. And CyubeVR is back as well. The barber and tattoo simulation Shave & Stuff, released in May, made it into the charts for the first time as far as I'm aware.
Hopefully, the current slump in PSVR 2 games won't last, and if it does, you'll soon be able to switch to a PC if you have one: Sony will be selling a PC adapter starting August 7. If you want to stick with your PS5, you can look forward to the release of Spin Rhythm XD, The Infinite Inside and Sky Climb in July.
