FACTS

Funcom and Lab42 Games have announced that Metal: Hellsinger VR will be released in the fall of 2024 for Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro, as well as PC VR via Steam and PSVR 2. There is no specific date yet, but a free demo is now available on Steam.

The demo features a new lobby where you can choose levels, music, and equipment. You can play the first two levels, Voke and Stygia, as well as four weapons: the talking skull Paz, the sword Terminus, the twin pistols The Hounds and the shotgun Persephone.

The award-winning soundtrack was created by composing duo Two Feathers and features contributions from metal artists such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Matt Heafy (Trivium) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy). Matt Heafy himself announced the demo in a short teaser.

CONTEXT

VR conversion redesigned from the ground up

Funcom announced the VR version of the rhythm shooter back in March. It was said to have been designed from the ground up for virtual reality: "Metal: Hellsinger’ in VR is a match made in heaven, or should I say hell," Funcom CMO Erling Ellingsen said. "Even when we were working on the original, we fantasized about how thrilling it would be to play in VR and many fans have been saying the same. Now that fantasy is coming true and there is no doubt: slaying demons to the rhythm of epic metal tracks, all in full-motion immersive VR, is just as incredible as we imagined it."

Metal: Hellsinger VR is being developed by Lab42 Games, a studio that became part of Sumo Digital in 2020. Lab42 has previously worked on projects for clients such as Sega Europe Publishing and Klei Entertainment.
