Polyarc announces VR game Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss

The hit VR game series Moss is getting a MOBA-inspired multiplayer spin-off for Meta Quest.

Moss and its sequel, Moss: Book II, are among the most popular action adventures in virtual reality. But the next title in the series will be very different.

With Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, developer Polyarc has just announced a competitive "real-time battler" that takes its cues from titles in the "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena" (MOBA) genre.

When various rodents and other creatures of the fantasy realm battle it out, the real-time action could resemble games like League of Legends, Dota 2 or Crash Team Rumble.

Beyond that, the developers are not revealing much, even though the studio held its first playtests in April 2023. The Quest Store only reveals that the title supports the Quest 2 and the Quest Pro and requires only 2.26 gigabytes of storage space. The Seattle studio plans to reveal more information at the world premiere on Tuesday, August 29.

"As a game development studio that aspires to create games for everyone, we want to find ways to reach more of the audience within VR and even create space for new folks to join us there", Polyarc co-founder and CEO Tam Armstrong said in March, "it’s apparent observing the community of players out there and receiving some of our own feedback that there are a lot of gamers in VR who are looking for and want to play more competitive multiplayer games".

There is no release date yet. Polyarc told UploadVR that there may be implementations for other VR platforms down the road: "We hope to include Glassbreakers on more devices in the future, but for now we're focusing on Quest 2 and Quest Pro", the developer told the outlet.
