Playstation VR 2: Reddit users came up with a weird comfort hack

The Playstation VR 2's weak padding can make it uncomfortable to wear. But some fans know how to help themselves.

Ben suffers from it, so do I, and Josef even returned his Playstation VR 2 because of it. I'm talking about the inadequate comfort of the Playstation VR 2. Inadequate at least for our head shapes.

We all wished Sony had been a little more generous with the padding, and were surprised that the comfort level was down from the extremely comfortable Playstation VR 1.

Was Sony using the thin padding on the forehead rest to ensure that the haptic effect of the vibration motor behind it isn't impaired? Possibly. But comfort should be more important than a haptic gimmick.

Users are rediscovering their PSVR 1 padding

A number of Reddit users found an obvious solution to their comfort issues: They took off the trusty padding from the first Playstation VR and put it on their brand-new Playstation VR 2.

One such Reddit user is u/idUserProfile. He removed the forehead padding from the older VR headset and placed it directly on the forehead padding of the Playstation VR 2.

Reddit user u/MtnDr3w went a step further, removing all the padding from the Playstation VR 2 and attaching the PSVR 1 padding with a cut velcro strip instead. Reddit user u/willnotforget2 did the same, with good results.

Be cautious when tinkering with your PSVR 2

Now, before you get down to business yourself: First make sure, that you don't void your warranty by doing that.

You should also keep in mind that a different, thicker forehead padding may weaken the effect of the haptic motor inside the headset. This is a trade-off that some people may be willing to make for improved comfort.

Perhaps in the future, Sony itself or a third-party manufacturer will come out with accessories that improve comfort. Either way, the demand is there.
