Mark Zuckerberg announced this with a photo and a short message on Facebook. The photo shows him with Project Cambria. His outstretched arm and clenched fist suggest he is using hand tracking.

"Project Cambria's color passthrough technology will enable developers to build a whole new level of mixed reality experiences. More details coming tomorrow", Zuckerberg writes.

Meta breaks the silence

Accordingly, there will be new official info on Thursday. It is unclear whether this will be limited to the device's high-quality passthrough mode or also shed light on other aspects.

Meta has taken its time: Project Cambria was announced on October 28, 2021 at Meta Connect. Since then, there have been no official details about the device.

Only two weeks ago, there was news again when Zuckerberg specified the application scenario of Project Cambria: The new product series is intended for work and productivity and should one day replace laptops. A few days later, Meta also revealed that the device would be much more expensive than $800.

Project Cambria to be released in 2022

There were heaps of rumors about the VR headset in the spring. Among other things, the technical features and the front sensor technology potentially leaked.

The device features high-quality augmented reality, eye and face recognition, and new types of lenses that allow for a much slimmer form factor than Meta Quest 2. Zuckerberg's photo is the first image to show Project Cambria in real life. So far, only the following render video has been officially released

According to a leak, the device is expected to be launched in September 2022. Meta has only officially confirmed that it will be launched this year.
