Metaverse: Mark Zuckerberg goes "All In" - Report
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is putting all his eggs in the Metaverse basket, according to a former decision-maker.
It's been less than a year since Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg turned the helm of his company around. The new course: the Metaverse. According to a former employee's report, there's no going back.
Meta repositions itself
A recently departed Meta executive tells Business Insider that the Metaverse is the only thing Zuckerberg talks about. Internal communications are driven by Metaverse messages, and new teams are being formed around the future vision.
One team is expected to play a central role in communicating the "Metaverse Playbook" across all groups - the goals, strategies and structures. A Metaverse spokesperson tells Business Insider the current phase is "critical" for the entire company, which is going "all in" - putting all its eggs in one basket.
Metaverse shift: excitement - and confusion
One current employee spoke of "disorganization" and "anxiety" in the teams, which did not really know what they were working on or what they were supposed to deliver. He said there was not yet a unified strategy, and despite many Metaverse announcements, there was a lack of clear results.
"A lot of people are excited, but they have a lot of questions at the same time," the Meta spokesperson commented on Business Insider's report.
Mark Zuckerberg is currently unwaveringly pursuing his Metaverse vision and investing accordingly. Just last year, he invested ten billion US dollars in the Metaverse transformation of his company. Many billions have already flowed into the development of VR and AR technology in recent years since the acquisition of Oculus in March 2014.
More billion-dollar investments will follow: In Europe alone, Zuckerberg wants to create up to 10,000 Metaverse jobs in the next five years, and he is also expanding in Canada with another 2,500 jobs for engineers and developers.
The revenue from these investments is expected to one day be generated primarily through advanced AR devices, which Meta is currently working on at full speed. The first high-end AR glasses for enthusiasts and development studios are expected to hit the market in 2024, according to a recent unveiling.
