Sandbox VR brings Zack Snyder's Netflix epic Rebel Moon to virtual reality
VR arcade chain Sandbox VR and Netflix are bringing a new VR experience to their locations with "Rebel Moon: The Descent". It is the second collaboration between the two companies after the successful "Squid Game Virtuals".
VR arcade chain Sandbox VR has announced that "Rebel Moon: The Descent" is now available at all Sandbox VR locations worldwide. The VR experience is based on the Netflix film by director Zack Snyder and is the company's tenth VR experience.
In "Rebel Moon: The Descent," you will become a member of the resistance and battle the forces of "Motherworld" on the planet Daggus. You will traverse skyscrapers, city streets and underground mines as you battle enemy soldiers and spaceships.
Netflix collaboration for Sandbox VR a huge success
The announcement follows the huge success of "Squid Game Virtuals", Sandbox VR's first Netflix collaboration. The VR experience broke all records, generating $4.56 million in revenue in its first two months. Since its launch, more than 10.1 million gamers have been "eliminated," 1.8 million have fallen off the glass bridge, and 2.2 million have been caught by the puppet in "Red Light, Green Light."
According to CEO Steve Zhao, working with Netflix to develop VR experiences based on popular brands is an important part of the company's long-term growth strategy. Further collaborations between Sandbox VR and Netflix are already in the works.
Strong growth for Sandbox VR
Sandbox VR currently operates 55 locations worldwide and receives over 100,000 visitors per month. The company recorded a 60% increase in franchise agreements in the second quarter of 2024 and plans to open 280 new locations in the next four years. The 37 company-owned locations generate an average annual revenue of $1.9 million per location.
Founded in Hong Kong in 2017, the company raised more than $37 million in its latest round of funding from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. Prominent individual investors include Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Kevin Durant and Will Smith.
