Meta wants to bring Quest to schools & universities
Meta wants to establish Meta Quest as a learning tool. A beta program is currently underway with more than a dozen colleges and universities participating.
Meta calls the new educational product Meta for Education. It is designed to give teachers, trainers, and administrators access to a range of education-specific content. Meta has announced back in 2021, that it will invest $150 million in the development of educational content.
In this context, Meta announces the launch of a beta program with the following colleges and universities in the US and UK.
- Arizona State University
- Houston Community College
- Imperial College London
- Miami Dade College
- Morehouse College
- New Mexico State University
- San Diego State University
- Savannah College of Art & Design
- The University of Glasgow
- University of Iowa
- University of Leeds
- University of Miami
- University of Michigan
Participants are encouraged to submit their feedback before Meta for Education officially launches. The Quest blog states that Meta plans to expand the education product this winter.
Back in April, Meta announced that Meta for Education will be available in the same countries as Meta Quest for Business. The target group are institutions that teach pupils and students aged 13 and over.
What is Meta for Education?
Meta announced the new initiative in April, without giving it an official name at the time.
Meta for Education is modeled after the B2B product Meta for Business and is designed to give teachers, trainers, and administrators access to a range of education-specific apps and features, as well as the ability to manage multiple Quest devices simultaneously without having to update and prepare each headset individually. This should save time and allow students to get started at any time.
Meta writes in the Quest blog:
"Meta for Education will make it easier for educators to discover interactive and engaging content that makes learning more enjoyable and effective, covering a range of subjects including science, medicine, history, and language arts. And metaverse technologies make it possible to create immersive experiences that deepen learning and understanding beyond what is possible in the physical world, like field trips to distant museums and risk-free hands-on training."
