Boxing Underdog aims for hard-hitting realism on Meta Quest
Boxing Underdog is a new VR boxing simulation that aims to stand out from the competition with its visual and gameplay realism.
Monologic Games has announced Boxing Underdog for Meta Quest. The VR game is coming out this month and challenges The Thrill of The Fight 2, which launches in Early Access on November 21st.
The studio touts Boxing Underdog as the "most realistic VR boxing simulation," with lifelike graphics and a 100% physics-based gameplay. The VR game uses body tracking to replicate your movements as accurately as possible in virtual reality, as well as AI opponents that use a technique called motion matching to make them more realistic and challenging.
There will be a single player mode and a multiplayer mode with a customizable avatar. The former will feature a career mode that will allow you to work your way up the ranks, as well as training modules that will allow you to learn authentic boxing techniques and improve your footwork. For multiplayer, the studio promises friends and leaderboards, direct combat and matchmaking. Matchmaking for tournaments will follow at a later date.
Boxing Underdog will be released for Meta Quest 3S, 3, 2 and Pro in November, according to its listing in the Horizon Store. A version for Playstation VR 2 and PC VR is in development for next year.
From bare knuckle to professional boxing
The VR game is based on VRSO: Bare Knuckle Fighting, which has been evolved towards professional boxing and renamed Boxing Underdog with this announcement. The brutal gloveless fighting will remain as an optional mode, according to the announcement trailer.
Polish studio Monologic Games previously made a name for itself with the VR platformer Ven VR Adventure.
