Meta Quest 3S may get an "Action button"
There are new reports about the Meta Quest 3S. The device may get an Action button and lose the 3.5mm headphone jack.
VR enthusiast Luna provides new information about Meta Quest 3S, a cheaper version of Quest 3 that is rumored to be released this fall.
In March, promotional material with renderings of the device was leaked, showing a button on the bottom of the Quest 3S whose function is unknown.
Luna now writes, citing anonymous sources, that the button is some sort of Action button. In some OS versions, the button is used to switch to passthrough mode; in others, users are still prompted to double-tap the headset. In the future, the button may be configurable, according to Luna.
One last (?) Meta Quest 3S leak:
AdAdI'm told the button on the bottom of the visor is an "Action" button of sorts.
In certain OS versions it's used to toggle Passthrough/MR, in others the UX/NUX still seems to tell the user to Double Tap.
May be remappable at some point. https://t.co/BDr51n8KLN pic.twitter.com/WnWiy9AgSS

Luna also commented on speculation about audio connectivity. There is no 3.5mm port to be seen on the leaked promotional material. Luna now reports that the Quest 3S, like the Pico 4, will only support audio connection over USB-C. This means it will ship without a 3.5mm headphone jack.

An Action button would be a huge gain in convenience.
The Meta Quest 3S is a budget headset, priced to follow in the footsteps of the Quest 2, ostensibly with the Quest 3's significantly more powerful chipset, color passthrough, the same ringless controllers, and feature parity in software, but the Quest 2's display and Fresnel lenses.
A customizable action button similar to the iPhone 15 Pro and Max would be a huge gain in convenience. It could allow users to switch between VR and Passthrough more quickly, take screenshots and videos with a single button press, or activate certain quick settings (sleep, night, travel mode) more easily.
The lack of a headphone jack is probably a cost-saving measure. The disadvantage is that it is not possible to charge the Quest 3S and use the headphones via UBS-C at the same time. A compromise Meta is obviously willing to make. Quest 3 has a separate jack for those who want it.
