Demeter is the most ambitious mixed reality game for Quest 3 to date
Demeter is the first fully-fledged Meta Quest game designed from the ground up for mixed reality. The game is scheduled for release in January 2024.
Demeter was revealed last week. In it, you control a female character named Atalanta around your living room. Paris-based studio Novelab describes the game as follows:
Atalanta has fallen into our world. Help her to understand how and why she ends up in your home. Your furniture and walls will become challenging puzzles that require all your dexterity.
Take on challenging puzzles, climb, jump, and battle your way through a breathtaking narrative. Demeter is an emotional storyline to unravel. Guide Atalanta through your world and on flying vehicles as she wields mystical powers. Your choices will impact the Demeter universe and the fate of Atalanta.
Meta Quest already has several platformers such as Lucky's Tale, Moss and Ven VR Adventure. However, none of these titles were developed with mixed reality in mind.
In Demeter, the levels and graphics are procedurally generated and adapt to the size and conditions of the room in which Demeter is played. This means that each game world is unique and tied to the space in which it takes place, whether small or large.
Experimenting with Mixed Reality
Demeter is Novelab's first full-length game and has been in co-production with Meta for nearly two years. The studio is known for VR experiences such as Notes on Blindness, Spheres, Isle of The Dead and On The Morning You Wake.
"From the Mixed Reality gameplay to the generative level design, the team had to rethink entirely from the ground up what it means to have fun, move, and explore the physical environment around us, and the way we tell stories," writes the studio.
The mixed reality game will be released on January 25, 2024 for Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro. The following trailer shows what the game looks like on Meta Quest 3. You can already pre-order the game on the Meta Quest Store and receive a 10 percent discount.
