"Support is stronger than ever": VR Games Showcase promises big announcements and surprises for all VR platforms.
The next VR Games Showcase is coming to YouTube and TikTok on March 11th, and according to its organizers, it's shaping up to be their most ambitious event yet. The spring edition plans to feature major announcements from both AAA studios and indie developers, including new social VR experiences and some surprise game drops.
Today, the VRGS announced that we'll get our first glimpse of Agent 47's return in Hitman: World of Assassination for PSVR 2. Flat2VR Studios, the team that specializes in bringing traditional games into VR, will share updates on RoboQuest VR and Wrath, along with revealing some new projects. The organizers say they'll announce more participating developers soon.
Jamie Feltham, who runs the VR Games Showcase, claims they've received unprecedented support from developers this time around. "Whether you already have a headset or are interested in picking one up, VRGS is sure to
have something for you," he says. For context, last year's inaugural showcase introduced hits like Trombone Champ: Unflattened, FlatOut VR, and the Arizona Sunshine Remake.
Why events like VRGS matters for VR more than ever
The VR industry is going through some growing pains right now. Several established studios have had to cut staff in recent months, with Toast Interactive (the team behind the cult hit Richie's Plank Experience) being the latest casualty, announcing they're shutting down their office entirely.
Most VR developers depend heavily on Meta Quest, currently the biggest platform in VR. But they're increasingly getting squeezed out by free-to-play content, which Meta tends to prioritize in its Horizon feeds, especially as their audience skews younger. Meanwhile, the market is getting more crowded as both established and new studios jump into VR development, making it harder for ambitious projects to get noticed.
That's why events like the VR Games Showcase are becoming increasingly critical. They offer a rare spotlight for developers to show off their latest innovations and upcoming games to a broad audience. For anyone interested in where VR gaming is headed, this showcase shouldn't be missed.
