HTC today unveiled VIVERSE Worlds, a WebXR-based platform for hosting and sharing 3D content online. HTC said VIVERSE Worlds will work similarly to YouTube for video, making 3D content easy to find, accessible on a wide range of devices and embeddable on any website.

The content hub is said to go beyond games and avatars to include 3D manuals, interactive websites, animated displays, Gaussian splats and immersive e-commerce. The user interface helps users discover new content through recommendations and allows them to subscribe to content creators. Embedding 3D content is effortless and works via copy and paste.

The platform utilizes polygon streaming, a technology that enables the display of high-quality 3D models with low bandwidth and processing power. This is achieved by streaming and rendering only the 3D elements currently visible to the user.

VIVERSE Worlds is closely linked to VIVERSE Create, a set of tools for creating interactive multiplayer worlds without programming knowledge. Content can be used on VR headsets, mobile devices, PCs and Macs without installation. The platform continues to support integration with the Sketchfab library, giving users access to millions of free 3D models. Creators do not need to re-create or move their content to support VIVERSE Worlds.
